The main numerical model of NIMH for a short-range forecast is ALADIN.
ALADIN is a spectral model for regional forecast of meteorological fields and elements. Its development is done by a consortium of 16 member countries, and in the last 7 years together with the HIRLAM members; with Meteo France as a leading partner.
The parameters of its operational implementation in NIMH are the following:
- mesh size 5000 m,
- 105 vertical levels,
- time-step 300 s.
- Model integration is performed 4 times daily and the result is a 72-hour forecast - at 06 and 18 h UTC, 48-hour forecast - at 00 and 12 h UTC for a region centered over Bulgaria
The implementation and development of the model in NIMH is done in the Numerical Forecasts Section of the Forecasts and Information Services Department.
